Global pricing overview

eSIM pricing across 209 destinations

Across 209 destinations, per-GB prices range from $0.29 (Thailand) to $22.52 (Monaco). The median sits at $2.08/GB. That spread means destination matters as much as provider when calculating trip costs. A 5 GB plan in Southeast Asia can cost less than 1 GB in a remote Pacific island nation.

Southeast Asia averages the lowest per-GB rates, with Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia regularly falling below $1.50/GB. Europe sits mid-range: most Western European countries land between $2.00 and $4.00/GB. The Middle East and parts of Africa show the widest price spread, driven by fewer local carrier partners and lower competition among eSIM resellers.

Nomad scores highest on pricing in Southeast Asia and East Asia, where its carrier partnerships deliver per-GB rates other providers cannot match. Holafly's unlimited plans break even at roughly 5 GB per day of actual usage, making them the clear choice for heavy consumers on longer trips. Airalo's regional bundles (Eurolink, Asialink, Discover Global) reduce per-country cost on multi-stop itineraries by consolidating multiple destinations into a single eSIM.

The tables below group destinations by region. Each country links to a per-destination comparison matrix with plan pricing, network operators, speed data, and a provider score breakdown.

Local operators, counted per destination

Local operators counts the operators one provider publishes for a destination. HelloRoam is the only provider in this comparison that publishes the list, so the column carries HelloRoam values and no estimate for the other four.

HelloRoam publishes a local operator list for 185 destinations. Across those destinations HelloRoam names 154 distinct local operators.

117 destinations carry one operator, which leaves no fallback network in those places. 68 destinations carry more than one. The highest count on any single list is 4, and the mean across the set is 1.48.

98 destinations have at least one operator with a 5G label. A generation label states the network technology an operator runs. It is not a speed figure, and this dataset holds none.

A destination list names the operators available there. It does not say which operator a handset selects at a given moment, and list order is alphabetical.

eSIM For Apple Watch

Apple Watch Series 3 and later support eSIM for cellular connectivity. Travel eSIM providers do not support Apple Watch directly. Apple Watch eSIM requires a carrier plan (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, EE, Vodafone). Number sharing with your iPhone plan costs $5-10/month.

eSIM Not Working

eSIM not working: 1) enable data roaming in settings, 2) verify your device supports eSIM (iPhone XS or later, most 2020+ Android phones), 3) check carrier coverage in your area, 4) toggle airplane mode on and off, 5) reset network settings. Contact your eSIM provider if activation fails.
