Decision guide

When does unlimited make sense?

Choose unlimited if you...

  • + Stream video or music daily
  • + Work remotely with video calls
  • + Use 10GB+ per week
  • + Want predictable daily costs
  • + Hate monitoring data usage

Choose fixed data if you...

  • + Use under 5GB per trip
  • + Mostly use maps and messaging
  • + Want the lowest possible cost
  • + Need full-speed hotspot tethering
  • + Travel to Nomad-covered destinations

Fair use policies explained

Holafly's unlimited plans come with a fair use policy. After you consume a set amount of high-speed data per day (typically 1-2GB depending on the country), your speed drops to 256 Kbps-1 Mbps for the rest of that day. The counter resets at midnight.

At reduced speeds, you can still send messages, use maps, browse text-heavy websites, and make VoIP calls. Streaming video, downloading large files, and video calls will be slow or unusable until the next day's reset.

This is common practice among unlimited mobile plans worldwide and does not mean the plan is not unlimited. It means you get unlimited data volume with a speed cap after the daily high-speed threshold.

FAQ

Unlimited eSIM FAQ

Holafly is the only major provider offering true unlimited daily data across 178+ countries from $2.99/day. Airalo offers unlimited plans in select markets only. Saily and Nomad offer fixed data plans exclusively.

Holafly advertises unlimited data with a fair use policy. After the daily threshold (varies by country, typically 1-2GB of high-speed data), speeds reduce to 256 Kbps-1 Mbps. This handles messaging and maps but not streaming.

For heavy users (10GB+ per week), Holafly's unlimited plans are cheaper than buying equivalent fixed data. For light users (under 5GB per trip), fixed plans from Nomad or Airalo are more cost-effective.

Holafly limits hotspot tethering to approximately 1GB per day on most plans. The unlimited data allowance applies to on-device usage. If you need full hotspot access, consider a large fixed data plan instead.

Holafly's unlimited daily plans range from $2.99/day to $8.99/day depending on the destination. Popular destinations like the US, UK, and Japan are typically $4.99-$6.99/day for 7-day plans.
