esim-vs-google-fi

Travel eSIM providers offer data in 150-200 countries from $3.00/GB. Google Fi covers 200+ countries at $10/GB after the plan limit. eSIM providers cost less for short trips. Google Fi works better for US residents who want one plan at home and abroad. HelloRoam scores 8.8/10 in our comparison matrix.

esim-for-apple-watch

Apple Watch Series 3 and later support eSIM for cellular connectivity. Travel eSIM providers do not support Apple Watch directly. Apple Watch eSIM requires a carrier plan (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, EE, Vodafone). Number sharing with your iPhone plan costs $5-10/month.

esim-not-working

eSIM not working: 1) enable data roaming in settings, 2) verify your device supports eSIM (iPhone XS or later, most 2020+ Android phones), 3) check carrier coverage in your area, 4) toggle airplane mode on and off, 5) reset network settings. Contact your eSIM provider if activation fails.

FAQ

eSIM troubleshooting FAQ

The most common cause is Data Roaming being turned off. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options and enable Data Roaming. Also verify the travel eSIM is selected as your primary data line. If both are correct, toggle Airplane Mode on for 10 seconds, then off. This forces the phone to search for local networks. If it still shows No Service, restart the phone completely.

It depends on the provider. Airalo allows one re-installation from the app. Holafly sends a new QR code on request. Saily and Nomad may require contacting support for a replacement. Never delete an active eSIM profile unless you are done with the plan. If you delete it before using the data, contact the provider immediately for a re-install or replacement.

First, check if you are on a 3G network instead of LTE. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data and select LTE or 5G. Second, toggle Airplane Mode on for 10 seconds, then off. This forces the phone to reconnect to the strongest available tower. Third, check if you have used all your data. Open the provider app to verify remaining data. Some providers throttle instead of disconnecting at the limit.

Three common causes. First, the QR code has already been used. Each QR code activates one eSIM profile and cannot be reused. Second, the screenshot quality is too low. Use the original QR code from the provider email, not a zoomed-in screenshot. Third, the QR code expired. Some providers set expiration dates on unused QR codes. Contact support for a replacement if none of these apply.

Contact the eSIM provider first. Issues like activation failures, QR codes not working, and data not connecting are on the provider side. Contact your phone carrier only if you suspect a device-level issue: eSIM slot disabled, carrier lock preventing eSIM installation, or phone firmware blocking eSIM profiles. Your phone carrier does not manage the travel eSIM profile.
