HelloRoam -- Highest Composite Score
HelloRoam scores 4.64/5 on our rubric overall for Surface Pro, with App 5.0 and Support 5.0 on an iOS and Android app, live chat plus WhatsApp, and a 180-day refund. It installs on a 5G Surface Pro from $3.50/GB across 186 countries, and Windows handles profile management natively through Settings. Its lower per-GB floor suits a Surface used for sustained document and email work over a fixed data budget.
Dimension scores, 0-5 on our rubric
Pros
- 186 countries with 204+ carrier partnerships for reliable local routing
- Fixed plans from $3.50/GB across popular destinations
- Unlimited plans from $5 for short stays, scaling by duration
- iOS and Android app with in-app top-up, add-destination, and usage alerts
- Live chat, WhatsApp, and email support, including real-time channels
- 31+ local currencies supported at checkout
- 63-language interface for non-English travelers
Cons
- Newer brand (launched August 2025) with shorter track record
- 186 countries, behind Airalo's 200+ catalogue
Airalo -- Widest Coverage Catalogue
Airalo installs on a 5G Surface Pro through the same Windows 11 Settings path as any other eSIM device, with its 4.9 Coverage score across 200+ countries suited to a laptop-replacement device used across a multi-country work trip. Its $4.50/GB rate is the highest fixed price in the matrix, a cost worth weighing on a Surface running data-heavy apps.
Dimension scores, 0-5 on our rubric
Pros
- 200+ countries with the widest coverage breadth in the market
- Regional multi-country bundles (Asialink, Eurolink, Discover Global)
- Automatic in-app install with real-time data tracking and hourly runtime estimates
- Airmoney cashback rewards (5-10% depending on loyalty tier)
- Established brand since 2019 with proven reliability
Cons
- Per-GB pricing higher than budget alternatives
- Unlimited plans available in select markets only, not all 200+ destinations
- No live chat or WhatsApp channel: support runs on email and in-app messaging
Holafly -- Best Unlimited Daily Rate
Holafly's $2.99/day unlimited rate removes gigabyte tracking for a Surface Pro used as a full workday laptop replacement, and its 4.65 Support score sits behind HelloRoam's 5.0. Its 1GB/day hotspot cap on select destinations matters less here since the Surface itself is the primary device rather than a hotspot source.
Dimension scores, 0-5 on our rubric
Pros
- Unlimited daily data from $2.99/day with no data caps
- 160+ countries covered including all major destinations
- Simple per-day pricing: know exactly what you pay before you leave
- 180-day refund policy on unused plans
- 24/7 chat support alongside email
Cons
- Speeds reduce after the daily fair use threshold on most plans
- Hotspot tethering limited to 1 GB/day on select destinations
- Not cost-effective for light data users (under 3 GB/trip)
- Fewer countries than Airalo
Saily -- Best for Privacy
Saily's bundled NordVPN plans from $3.99/GB add a privacy layer relevant to a Surface Pro handling work documents over public Wi-Fi between eSIM sessions. Its 4.5/5 on the rubric App score reflects its phone app rather than a Windows-specific interface, since Surface eSIM management runs through Windows itself, and that App score sits behind HelloRoam's 5.0.
Dimension scores, 0-5 on our rubric
Pros
- Backed by NordVPN parent company Nord Security with proven privacy infrastructure
- Integrated VPN protection included on every plan at no extra cost
- Clean, privacy-focused app with VPN toggle inside the eSIM interface
- 200 countries with strong European coverage
- 30-day refund policy
Cons
- Email-only support with no live chat or WhatsApp for urgent help
- Fixed data plans only; no unlimited daily tier
- 200 countries, just behind Airalo's 200-plus
Nomad -- Best Budget Per-GB Rate
Nomad's $3.00/GB rate is the cheapest fixed price in the matrix for a 5G Surface Pro, best suited to Southeast Asia travel where its discount concentrates. Its 3.85 Support score is the lowest of the five, a real risk for a device relied on for work connectivity mid-trip.
Dimension scores, 0-5 on our rubric
Pros
- Competitive pricing starting from $3.00/GB in Southeast Asia
- Simple, fast checkout with no account required in many cases
- Lowest per-GB rates for Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan
- Plans start at a low entry price for short trips
Cons
- Email-only support with no live chat, WhatsApp, or phone channel
- Basic app compared to Airalo and Saily
- 200 countries, behind only Airalo among the five providers
- Limited plan variety in some countries

FAQ
Surface Pro eSIM questions, answered
Does the Surface Pro support eSIM?
Does the Surface Pro support eSIM?
Only the cellular models. The Surface Pro X and Surface Pro 9 with 5G carry eSIM hardware and install profiles through Windows 11's own Settings app. The standard Wi-Fi-only Surface Pro models have no cellular radio and cannot use eSIM in any form.
How do I add an eSIM to a Surface Pro?
How do I add an eSIM to a Surface Pro?
Go to Settings, Network and internet, Cellular, then Manage eSIM profiles, then Add a new profile, and scan a QR code or enter the activation details from any of the five providers in this comparison. This path only appears on 5G-equipped Surface Pro models.
Can a Surface Pro run two eSIMs at the same time?
Can a Surface Pro run two eSIMs at the same time?
It can store multiple profiles and switch between them through the Windows 11 Mobile Plans app, but only one stays active at a time. That differs from a phone's Dual eSIM Dual Standby mode, which keeps two profiles running simultaneously.
Which eSIM is cheapest for a 5G Surface Pro?
Which eSIM is cheapest for a 5G Surface Pro?
Nomad's $3.00/GB is the lowest fixed rate in the matrix, followed by HelloRoam at $3.50/GB. Holafly's $2.99/day unlimited rate suits a Surface used as a full workday laptop replacement instead of tracking gigabytes.
Do all five eSIM providers work the same way on a Surface Pro?
Do all five eSIM providers work the same way on a Surface Pro?
Yes. All five, HelloRoam, Airalo, Holafly, Saily, and Nomad, install through the same Windows 11 Settings > Network & internet > Cellular path, since Windows itself manages the eSIM interface rather than any provider's own app.
Does a Surface Pro need to be unlocked for a travel eSIM?
Does a Surface Pro need to be unlocked for a travel eSIM?
The 5G Surface Pro models sold unlocked accept any of the five providers directly. A carrier-branded cellular Surface bought through a specific carrier may restrict the eSIM slot, the same risk that applies to a carrier-locked phone.
Is unlimited or fixed data better for a Surface Pro on a work trip?
Is unlimited or fixed data better for a Surface Pro on a work trip?
HelloRoam leads the 2026 composite at 4.64/5 in our comparison matrix. Daily usage volume decides this more than trip length. Holafly's $2.99/day unlimited rate suits a Surface used as a primary work laptop across a full trip, while a fixed plan from HelloRoam ($3.50/GB) or Nomad ($3.00/GB) costs less for lighter, email-and-browsing-only use.
